AMERICA’S BOATING CLUB OF SANIBEL-CAPTIVA America’s Boating Club of Sanibel-Captiva passed Captain Joanne Geroy-Giller with the Distinguished Civic Service Award received from BoatUS at the annual meeting.

At the recent America’s Boating Club Annual Meeting, BoatUS presented its first place Distinguished Civic Service Award to America’s Boating Club of Sanibel-Captiva.

The national award is the most prestigious a squadron can obtain. It recognizes the public visibility of the mission of BoatUS and America’s Boating Club through local community activities.

For many years, the Sanibel-Captiva Chapter has received top honors from BoatUS for its community service. He has engaged in a series of service projects, from his free ship safety checks to his 18-year history of donating toys and monetary gifts to the Heights Foundation at Christmas time. The club also manages its “Water! Water!” program, which focuses on testing and reporting the air quality in local surrounding water bodies.

“It was a squadron-wide effort,” said former commander Joanne Heroy-Giller. “The award reflects the dedication and commitment of so many of its members. We couldn’t have done this without everyone.

The club also received a $1,000 scholarship to continue its work throughout the community.
