HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) – Redistribution has been a hot topic in South Carolina.
Experts from the state of South Carolina scoured local towns in a virtual format to explain the redistribution and it’s Hilton Head’s turn on Tuesday, November 2.
They say the purpose of these workshops is to let citizens know how redistribution works.
“Because it happens once every 10 years, we encourage people to educate themselves, make sure they understand the process, make sure they understand all of these variables that come into play, so when you see these redesigned districts, you know why they did it. and why they look the way, ”said Hilton Head deputy general manager Joshua Gruber.
Gruber said the census data that determines the map’s new outlines arrived later than expected, so the timeline is a bit unstable.
“It’s our downtime to have new cards in place before the next general election for us, so we’re probably looking at the end of winter, the start of spring this coming year for hopefully everything. be finalized, ”Gruber said.
The presentation of the workshop is available on the city’s website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov/redistricting/
