The Kitimat Museum will hold a community meeting to discuss the shared facilities project

The September 6 meeting will be held in the Haisla administration building and the September 7 meeting at Riverlodge

Kitimat Museum & Archives is hosting two community meetings for the public to provide updates on a shared facility.

The consultants involved, Donald Luxton & Associates, D. HJensen & Associates Ltd and Kinexus Consulting will present updates on the ongoing feasibility study.

There are currently two meetings scheduled, the evening of September 6 at the Haisla Nation Administration Building and September 7 at the Joanne Monaghan Community Hall, Riverlodge.

Details, including options for location and size of facility, as well as space allocation and program components will be discussed at the meeting. The team will also discuss options for institutional requirements such as staffing, programming, and exhibits.

Last year, the Kitimat Museum and the Haisla Nation announced their partnership for a new facility following reports of deteriorating conditions in the current aging building at 293 City Centre.

Currently, the Haisla Nation is in the process of identifying cultural assets in collections around the world with the goal of bringing them home to Haisla territory.

A new facility would showcase both the Haisla heritage collection and the community and natural history of the area.
