Los Angeles police and city officials will hold a community meeting at the Peck Park Auditorium on Tuesday evening, July 26, to address concerns following a shooting that left two dead and six injured over the weekend.
Officials at the 5 p.m. meeting also planned to discuss a “community action plan for safety and awareness,” police said.
The community can attend in person at San Pedro Park, 560 N. Western Ave., with covid-19 precautions taken. Or the meeting can be watched via a live stream on the LAPD Port Division Facebook page.
Representatives expected include those from the LAPD’s South Bureau Homicide Unit, the City’s Recreation and Parks Department, the Mayor’s Gang Reduction Youth Development Program, and the Northwest Neighborhood Council. of San Pedro. Councilman Joe Buscaino is also expected to be there.
Just before 4 p.m. Sunday, an argument led to gunfire in the park, where a baseball game was taking place near a car show, authorities said. About 500 people were in the park when the shots rang out.
The car show was not licensed by the city. At least some of those present at the baseball game had come together to help overcome gang violence, officials said.
Police said they found weapons left in the park after the melee, but no arrests had yet been made.
