Metro and the City of Los Angeles are partnering to improve the speed, frequency and reliability of the more than 12,000 passengers who ride the buses that serve the La Brea Avenue corridor.
The La Brea Avenue Bus Priority Lane Project is located along a 5.9-mile segment of La Brea between Sunset Boulevard and Coliseum Street. It would add priority lanes for buses in both directions during peak weekday hours from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On-street parking would remain available during the noon, evening, overnight and weekend periods.
As a key component of the NextGen bus plan, bus priority lanes have been shown to improve bus speeds by 15% or more, increasing service frequency and reliability and moving more people without having to add more infrastructure (ie additional traffic lanes) . These bus lanes would complement the City of Los Angeles’ Vision Zero effort to reduce traffic accidents by reducing the need for buses to mix with vehicles in traffic lanes, while maintaining on-street parking for area residents, businesses and visitors.
