Hampton, recognized water authority in the Banner Community program

Hampton was designated a 2022 Banner Community by the Allegheny County League of Municipalities, as was the Hampton Shaler Water Authority.

This is the 10th year of the program, which recognizes municipalities and municipal authorities who demonstrate a commitment to professional development, prudent financial management, transparency, accountability and proactive communications to engage community stakeholders.

The water authority has been part of the Banner Community program for four years, since the initiative allowed authorities to join the program.

To be considered for the Banner Communities program, elected and appointed entity representatives must:

• Participate in educational or training programs through the League of Municipalities, the Local Government Academy, or the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, or participate in a government mentorship program;

• Be active members in good standing of the League of Municipalities and Municipal County Associations and have a representative who attends at least a minimum of 50% of County Association meetings;

• Be an active member in good standing of a council of governments and attend COG meetings, participate in a COG cooperative purchasing program and participate in at least one municipal shared service;

• Organize a Local Government Week activity by conducting a local activity promoting local government or communicating with the community about service delivery;

• Conduct an effective citizen communications program by offering a municipal newsletter or web-based communications effort, and participate in a class discussion about local government or conduct a shadowing program for junior or senior high school students. secondary;

• Promote and implement long-term sustainable governance practices by achieving certification through Sustainable Pittsburgh, managing employee pensions at 90% or greater funded levels, participating in the annual salary survey program and Salaries of the League of Allegheny Municipalities and implementing the objectives of an updated Municipal Master Plan.

Municipalities and jurisdictions will be recognized at a luncheon at the League of Municipalities Spring Education Conference in April.
