Framingham Veterans Court to be the subject of a community meeting

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Police Advisory Committee will host a community meeting this week focused on a special court that helps veterans recover after arrest or conviction.

Here are more excerpts from a press release from the Police Advisory Board:

The Framingham Police Advisory Committee will host a Framingham Police Department community presentation on Framingham Veterans Court on September 9 at 7 p.m. Lt. Robert Downing will introduce and will be joined by Judge Michael Fabri, who oversees the Framingham Veterans Court.

Many veterans suffer invisible injuries as a result of their service, such as post-traumatic stress disorder or traumatic brain injury, mental health issues or addiction. Framingham Veterans Court works to reduce the incarceration and recidivism rates of veterans by addressing the issues underlying criminal behavior. Essentially, the Framingham Veterans Court ensures that no soldier is left behind after leaving service in their country. “

Each veteran receives their own individual treatment plan, tailored to their specific needs, ”explained Lt. Downing. “Our clients have deserved these services because they have served their country.

Veterans Court is open to any veteran who has a case in district court, except those facing a sex crime or arson.

Community members are invited to join the Zoom event. Questions or comments can be directed to the Chair of the Police Advisory Committee, Nicole Doak, at [email protected] The presentation will be recorded.
