Elsie Haines of El Dorado receives DAR Community Service Award – Butler County Times-Gazette

On December 27, 2021, the Susannah French Putney Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution proudly presented the DAR Community Service Award to Elsie Haines of El Dorado.

Ms. Haines is a Meals on Wheels volunteer in El Dorado. Mrs. Haines and her husband Gerald volunteer on a regular day but also deliver meals on extra days without hesitation when needed.

According to Diane Heilman Felt, Director of Nutrition Services at SBA, “Ms. Haines always wears a smile and is an incredibly caring and compassionate person. She has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in El Dorado for over 20 years and the program would not exist without people like her in our community.

Throughout the Covid crisis, volunteers at El Dorado Meals on Wheels continued to serve meals to housebound people in the community when many volunteer agencies were closed.

Mr and Mrs Haines were surprised at the awards ceremony by 13 of their children and grandchildren, but before they could celebrate together, Mrs Haines had meals to deliver.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service Award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community.
