Community meeting planned for Driftwood Road parking lot project – The Defuniak Herald & Beach Breeze

INFORMATION WILL BE presented and public comments will be received on concept plans for a parking lot with transit building and restrooms on the property at 76 Driftwood Road, north of Scenic Gulf Drive in Miramar Beach.

Walton County Beach Operations will host a community meeting on September 15 to present information and receive public input on the upcoming development of a municipal parking lot at 76 Driftwood Road in Miramar Beach. A concept plan of the facility will be presented at the meeting.

The 1,119-acre property on which the parking lot is planned was purchased with $1.962 million in bed tax funds in April 2018. It is located on the east side of Driftwood Drive, about 300 feet north from Scenic Gulf Drive (southeast corner of Driftwood Road and Sandprints Drive.)

The property previously contained a number of buildings which have been removed and is currently vacant. It has been determined that it consists entirely of buildable upland.

Paved surface parking of approximately 80 parking spaces is contemplated, along with golf cart and bicycle parking and a transit/washroom building. There are also plans for property sidewalk connectivity with nearby Miramar Beach regional beach access. A stormwater management system is also planned on the property to improve drainage in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The community meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. on September 15 and last 1 1/2 hours. The South Walton Annex is the meeting location.
