City of Statesboro to Host 2nd Community Meeting on Zoning Updates • The Georgia Virtue

The City of Statesboro is embarking on a process to update its zoning and other development regulations and combine them into a unified development code that will regulate all new construction in the city. The process is being facilitated by Atlanta-based TSW consultants and is expected to continue through mid-2023. The Unified Development Code is an opportunity for the community to update its zoning, subdivision, and development regulations into a single, user-friendly document that supports Statesboro’s current and future needs.

“Communities across Georgia prefer unified development codes because they’re easier to use and administer than a bunch of separate, sometimes conflicting documents,” says Caleb Racicot, TSW project manager. He adds, “We look forward to working with the Statesboro community to ensure Statesboro’s code regulations and standards are designed to meet the unique needs of this community.

The new regulations will shape the next generation of growth and development in Statesboro, including things like housing, signage, business growth, and more. Over the next year, several community meetings will be held to gather input from residents, business owners, and anyone else interested in development in Statesboro.

The second of these meetings is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Statesboro First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall located at 101 S Main St, Statesboro, GA 30458. The meeting presentation will be recorded and shared on the social media channels of the city as well as on the website.

No rule changes will be drafted until community feedback has been received. The draft regulations will then be made available to the public for comment at future meetings. Community members who cannot attend the meeting can also share their comments and take a poll here by clicking on the “share your contribution” link at the top of the web page.
