Learn more about universal pre-kindergarten options

By Laura Mijares | early childhood council

A community meeting to learn about Universal Early Childhood Education in Archuleta County is being held Wednesday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Summit

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Program is an initiative to provide at least 10 hours of voluntary, high-quality preschool education to every child in Colorado in their year before entering kindergarten. UPK enables families to choose the right setting for their child, whether in an approved community, school or home preschool setting. The Colorado Department of Early Childhood is expected to fund and support the UPK beginning in the 2023-2024 school year.

The San Juan Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the Archuleta County Early Childhood Council will jointly host this information session. Please know that interested parents, providers, daycares and county agencies are welcome to learn more about UPK and share your questions and comments.

This meeting will also be broadcast via Zoom and accessible at the following address: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8799992752). For more information about this community meeting or any questions, please contact San Juan BOCES at (970) 769-2171.
