Guwahati: On Sunday, cadets from 47 Assam R&V Sqardron NCC conducted a community service program at the Promod Talukdar retirement home in Beltola.
The program was carried out as part of the National Cadet Corps Social Service and Community Development Project.
Cadets as well as senior officials, gifted wheelchairs, a fully automatic washing machine, a hot and cold water dispenser as well as the necessary medications for the inmates of the nursing home.

Colonel Led Shomir Bhatnagar, the commander of the unit, said the initiative was taken to encourage the younger generation to be more attached to the elderly.
Dr. Bibeka Saikia, Dean of the College of Veterinary Sciences, said the broader aim of the program is to develop the qualities of selfless service among the younger generation while instilling in them compassion for the elders in society.

During the day-long program, the cadets performed several cultural programs to keep the elderly inmates occupied and entertained.
